Position Overview
Reporting to the Product Development Manager - Hubs, the Engineer I is accountable for the completed detail and conceptual drawings. The Engineer I will take ownership of design integrity, innovation initiatives, and product performance across our hub bearing portfolio. You will directly influence how products are designed, validated, improved, and brought to market with a strong emphasis on innovation, failure analysis, and continuous advancement. You’ll be expected to challenge existing designs, uncover root causes, and push engineering standards forward.

Position Overview

The Engineer I will take ownership of design integrity, innovation initiatives, and product performance across our hub bearing portfolio. You will directly influence how products are designed, validated, improved, and brought to market with a strong emphasis on innovation, failure analysis, and continuous advancement. You’ll be expected to challenge existing designs, uncover root causes, and push engineering standards forward.
Key Responsibilities
- Failure Analysis & Continuous Improvement (CORE FOCUS)
- Lead root cause investigations on warranty returns and field failures
- Identify failure modes, design weaknesses, and systemic issues
- Convert findings into design upgrades, material changes, and engineering standards
- Use test data and real-world feedback to continuously evolve product performance
- Drive R&D initiatives focused on advancing wheel hub bearing technology
- Identify and evaluate emerging design concepts, materials, and performance improvements
- Lead competitive benchmarking activities to uncover design gaps and opportunities
- Translate insights into actionable engineering improvements and next-gen product direction
- Own the development of detailed specifications and conceptual designs from early-stage through release
- Ensure all designs meet performance, durability, and manufacturability requirements
- Validate and refine designs through peer review and engineering rigor before production
- Apply GD&T and engineering best practices to ensure precision and consistency
Engineering Execution & Validation
- Create and manage 2D/3D CAD models and drawings (AutoCAD, Inventor, or equivalent)
- Ensure designs are aligned with APQP requirements and validation processes
- DFMEA
- DVP
- ECRs / EDRs
- Engineering standards
Supplier & Manufacturing Impact
- Partner with global manufacturers to translate designs into high-performing products
- Resolve technical challenges and drive quality improvements with suppliers
- Support manufacturer onboarding with a focus on engineering excellence and compliance
- Elevate engineering capability by improving design standards and processes
- Standardize documentation and workflows to increase efficiency and quality
- Contribute to team development, knowledge sharing, and onboarding
- Actively shape and improve overall engineering practices and performance culture
Ideal Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or applied science
- 5+ years of bearing design experience (automotive preferred)
- CAD (2D & 3D – AutoCAD, Inventor or equivalent)
- GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
- APQP methodologies
- Mechanical testing & materials understanding (metallurgy, hardness, tensile)
- Proven ability to analyze failures and translate insights into design improvements
- Experience with FEA, PLM systems, or Autodesk Vault (assets)
Physical Demands And Working Conditions
- Position follows a hybrid work requirement, consisting of four (4) days onsite and one (1) day remote weekly.
- Primarily office-based with standard working hours; may require additional hours to meet project deadlines or address urgent matters.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment, managing multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously.
- Minimal physical demands, primarily involving sitting, using a computer, and other office-related activities
